q is required and trimmed; a blank query returns 400. Use a whole-number limit from 1 to 50 (default 10); decimals, non-numbers, zero, and values above 50 return 400. There is no pagination or total count.

Results rank exact ticker matches first, then exact domains, ticker prefixes, name prefixes, and name/domain substrings. Ties sort by name or ID. This is catalog matching, not fuzzy web search: misspellings may return no results.

Build autocomplete

Call your own server endpoint from the browser; let that server hold the secret key and call Brandmarks. Debounce typing, cancel outdated requests, and show the returned names and domains so users can disambiguate. Save the chosen company ID.

Do not expose the secret key to make direct browser search work. JSON CORS access is not enabled. An empty results array is not an API error.
