Core concepts
Understand companies, symbols, assets, and keys.
Companies and identifiers
A company has a stable id, such as alphabet. It can have multiple current tickers, former tickers, a website domain, and related brands. A ticker identifies a listing; it is not always a unique company identity across all markets. Store the returned company ID after resolving a match.
The beta resolver checks company IDs, current tickers, library file keys, former/legacy symbols, domains, and normalized ticker spellings. Static files use library keys instead. Do not assume a company ID or domain is a static filename.
Logo, mark, and fallback
A logo is the full horizontal artwork. A mark is the square symbol. Some companies have no distinct symbol; their mark contains the full logo fitted into a square. mark.method = "fallback" identifies these, and variant=auto selects the more readable full logo.
A monogram is a generated lettered placeholder for an unknown identifier. It is not the company’s logo and is only returned when explicitly requested.
Variants and themes
variant selects auto, logo, or mark. theme selects color, white, black, or brand. The brand theme places contrasting artwork on a primary-color panel; neutral brands use a dark panel.
Two delivery paths
Static files are public and use exact filenames. The beta image endpoint authenticates requests and resolves identifiers. JSON endpoints require a secret key and return metadata. Their caching and error behavior differ; consult the relevant reference instead of mixing URL formats.
